Salary Range:
The Salary Range is $69,880 - $94,544 and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLSI) is a national research facility of the University of Saskatchewan. CLS produces very bright light to explore the nature and structure of molecules, and serves national and international users from academia, industry, and government institutions.

CLSI is now accepting applications for an Associate Scientist position within our Bio/Life Sciences department on the BioXAS-Spectroscopy beamlines. BioXAS Spectroscopy is a set of two beamlines specifically designed to measure the XAS spectra of very low concentration of transition elements in bulk samples for various applications in Bio/Life, Environmental, and Material Sciences within its operation range of 5-32 keV.

Responsibilities:

  • Training and supporting users at the BioXAS-Spectroscopy beamlines to ensure that they are able to perform their scientific experiments in a safe and effective manner.
  • Assisting users and other beamline staff in sample preparation and data processing.
  • Aligning beamline optical components and setting up the endstation for users’ experiments.
  • Analyzing and solving routine technical problems and developing recommendations to solve difficult, complex, or unusual problems.
  • Preparing beamline documentation and ensuring designs conform to CLS standards, and other relevant codes, standards and practices.
  • Assisting the Beamline Responsible in the beamline upgrade/maintenance projects.
  • Developing technical expertise in specific areas of beamline operation and equipment, either in hardware or software.
  • Working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, is a requirement of the position.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • A relevant Master’s degree or Ph.D.
  • A minimum of two years of directly related experience in a synchrotron or scientific laboratory environment.
  • Experience with X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy.
  • A clear aptitude for service, teamwork, and research, particularly in programs requiring collaboration.

Desirable but not mandatory:

  • Experience in supporting users at a synchrotron facility.
  • Experience with beamline instrumentation design.
  • Basic programming skills.

Salary Range: The Salary Range is $69,880 - $94,544 and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Remuneration: Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A comprehensive benefits package, including supplemental health & dental, life insurance, pension plan, and four weeks’ vacation is part of a competitive compensation package.
