The Office of Indigenous Engagement is dedicated to advancing the University’s commitment to indigenization and reconciliation, including meaningful integration of Indigenous knowledges, expertise, and partnerships in all aspects of the University and strengthening relationships with Indigenous Community.

The Project Manager, Indigenous Engagement is a full-time continuing position responsible for ensuring all aspects of Indigenous Engagement educational program offerings are developed, implemented in a timely manner and within the approved allocated budget.  The successful candidate will also serve as the content expert for all administered programs under their responsibility. The Project Manager will work independently or manage a project team on a number of existing and new projects, and will at times, represent the department as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the facilitation, development, implementation, and delivery of existing and new Indigenous Engagement (IE) programs, initiatives, and events in support of furthering Indigenization, reconciliation, and Indigenous excellence at UWinnipeg.
  • Research best practices on indigenization; conduct periodic review of programs to recommend areas for improvement and identify emerging needs.
  • Oversee the Indigenous Insights program, including program revisions, assisting with hiring, training, overseeing facilitators, collaborating on delivery, creating certificates, etc.
  • Coordinate educational program delivery by projecting need for facilitators, assigning facilitators, facilitating presentation/training, scheduling, and addressing issues to ensure successful program delivery.
  • Manage community engagement initiatives, including workshops and program development, partnership development, management of participants, logistics, and evaluation.
  • Facilitate project strategic planning activities including managing timelines, staff, tracking deliverables and budget.
  • Assess initiatives and projects, identifying risks and developing mitigating tactics to ensure success.
  • Lead the consideration and initiation of new programs by gathering project requirements, assessing the viability, preparing recommendations and then overseeing approved projects by establishing and implementing work plans, project scope, objectives, specifications, schedule, costs, processes, etc.
  • Manage changes to project scope and guide other project team in developing alternate strategies.
  • Prepare project updates and reports.
  • Prepare for and participate in speaking engagements, workshops, seminars, presentations etc.
  • Develop proposals, grant applications and coordinate fundraising efforts to support projects.
  • Work with the Associate Vice-President Indigenous Engagement (AVP-I), and other IE team members to analyze community engagement data, evaluate strategies and recommend initiatives.
  • Provide support to the greater IE team.
  • Collaborate with IE team to identify, establish and maintain effective relationships with Indigenous communities and partner organizations.
  • Consult with stakeholders (internal and external) and draw on findings to recommend programs to support UWinnipeg’s commitment to indigenization, reconciliation, and Indigenous excellence.
  • Develop and deliver outreach activities and materials to increase awareness of University programs at the regional, national, and international level.
  • Represent the Office of IE at community events, conferences, etc.
  • Manage financial activities of projects/programs, including budget planning and preparation; expense approval; financial tracking, monitoring and administration, with oversight by AVP-I.
  • Promote IE programs, ensuring that positive financial results are achieved.
  • In consultation with the AVP-I, set and define programs’ goals and priorities, lead their implementation and review the outcomes.
  • Collect and analyze data on the effectiveness of programs and initiatives.
  • Provide logistics support on projects, maintain project records and files, and financial documents.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Arts, Business, Commerce, or a related area.
  • Project Manager Certificate Preferred.
  • 5 years’ experience in project planning, coordination and management, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
  • 2 years of experience with event planning and organization.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, organizations, governments.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous cultural protocols.
  • Experience with budget preparation and administration including grants monitoring.
  • Experience coordinating and facilitating training programs.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills – both verbal and written.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity and change.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and lead a team for all related projects.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Well-developed conflict management skills, with the ability to exhibit tact and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, or equivalent software.
  • Familiarity with grants and fundraising processes is an asset.

An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

The salary range for this position will be from $63,645.40 to $88,142.60 annually.
